It was a crazy CMJ and Dilly Dally and Weaves made it through unscathed.
The New York Times on Dilly Dally: "The thrill of this Toronto band, which mainlines the pugnacity of late ’80s and early ’90s alternative rock, is its internal tug-of-war. Ms. Monks... [is] a swaggering, jubilantly gritty vocalist, forever seeming as if she might slip off the rails." And everyone lost their minds over their cover of Drake's "Know Yourself".
Weaves topped Bob Boilen of NPR's Top 10 Discoveries of CMJ, calling them "a sonic treat"; Brad Nelson of the Guardian opined they were, "easily the most exciting band I saw"; and Jon Parelese of The New York Times describes the band' thusly: "The construction is cerebral, but the songs come across as uproarious."
